Wow, drinking water does that?

Did you know that 60 percent of your body weight is water? We can get our water from drinking beverages, and the food you consume has small amounts of daily water intake as well. Every cell in your body depends on water to function! Drinking water regulates your body temperature, it protects your tissues, spinal cord, and joints. Water is so important to your immune system. Staying hydrated on a regular basis is a key essential ingredient during the cold and flu season. Staying hydrated helps your body eliminate toxins, bacteria, and viruses that may cause illness. Water helps prevent constipation, especially in small children. Our airways, if they are dehydrated, can make asthma and even allergies worse. Creating healthy, happy cells through drinking water also boosts your brain cells! Water helps students stay alert, focused, improves their mood and can help prevent headaches! A glass of water can help lower blood glucose in diabetics and reduce cortisone levels in students that fight anxiety. So, what do you think? Are you, your children or even your students drinking your daily amount of water? The amount you consume depends on your age, body size, health, and activity level and considering the weather temperature and humidity levels. Some good ideas are to carry a water bottle with you wherever you go. Keep track of your intake and pace yourself that you will consume half your intake by midday. Treat water as a way of thanking your body for everything it does for you!
