Dear Parents/Guardians,

I would like to thank you for your efforts in keeping our community safe. The CDC along with the Indiana State Department of Health stated that the spread of COVID-19 in school settings is extremely low.   The diligent efforts of our staff, students, and parents have made this possible.

The CDC has released new guidelines pertaining to close contact quarantines that remain asymptomatic. All Cass County Schools will begin implementing the following. If your child has been identified as a close contact of a positive COVID-19 individual, a quarantine period is required. As long as the quarantined student remains free of symptoms, there are two alternative quarantine options.

  1. 7 Day Option - Quarantine can end after day 7 if your child remains asymptomatic and has a negative COVID test. The COVID test must be obtained on or after day 5 of quarantine.

  2. 10 Day Option - Quarantine can end after day 10 and your child may return to school without testing if no symptoms were reported during the 10-day quarantine.

Each alternative option requires appropriate use of PPE and social distancing both inside and outside of the school setting. Those in quarantine should monitor themselves for symptoms and are encouraged to be tested if symptoms develop.

An updated COVID Response Plan can be found here and includes more information about the new quarantine options.

All students and staff should continue to self-screen each day and not report to school if they are experiencing COVID-19 symptoms.

If you have any questions, please contact your child’s school. Thank you for all you are doing to keep our students, staff, and community safe.

Sincerely,

Michele Starkey

Superintendent
