Look who has joined our flock! Mrs. Canady’s library classes have enjoyed watching the Robin family from the library windows. Momma Robin has been sitting on her nest for a while now, and Daddy Robin showed up on Friday. It looks like their family has hatched.

The Student Council is sponsoring a "popsicle prize" for the class that donates the most breakfast food items by May 10th. Even if you don't have a student at CES, you can still contribute! Drop off items at the office from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Let's collaborate to provide our CES families with some extra support over the summer vacation!

Schwa Day fun! Columbia Elementary celebrated National Schwa Day with a pajama day and schwa activities! What is the schwa sound? It‘s a day to recognize and appreciate that schwa is a unique aspect of the pronunciation of some vowels in English. The schwa sound “uh” is found in an unstressed syllable. For example, the word "lemon" has a schwa sound ("uh") for the letter "o," so it is pronounced "lem-uhn." In the word April, the “i” says “uh,” and in the word eleven, the 2nd “e” says “uh. Since the schwa sound is always found in an unstressed syllable, we wore pajamas and were "unstressed" for the day, too! The teachers enjoyed some "lemon" snacks, and the students learned about schwa with some activities, including this YouTube video of a read-aloud of the book "The Not-So-Lazy Schwa" by the author, Yvette Manns.
